Sixty young athletes from Atlanta and beyond will represent the Peach State at the U.S.A. Water Polo Junior Olympic national championships in San Jose, CA. The tournament, known as “JOs,” is the pinnacle of U.S. age group water polo competition. With 10,000+ participants, JOs is the largest youth water polo tournament in the world and is roughly the same size as a Summer Olympic Games. Each of the four DWPC Youth teams will compete against teams from across the country.
Four Dynamo Water Polo Club Youth teams is a significant increase over 2017, when one team qualified. DWPC Youth 18U Girls, 18U Boys, 16U Girls, and 16U Boys teams all qualified at the 2018 USAWP Southeast Zone Qualifying tournament, held June 8-10 in Orlando, FL. 5/23/18: The league’s Divisions for the upcoming 2018 season have been released!
Division 1 (seven teams) has added one team, Forsyth A, who was the Division 2 Champion in 2017, and lost two teams, Collins Hill A and GAC Spartans, who were moved down to Division 2 per league policy based on the previous season’s results.
Division 2 (fourteen teams) has seen an explosion in growth for 2018, with APS Knights, Cambridge, Collins Hill, Dalton, GAC, Lakeside, Lovett and North Springs all being new. St. Pius’s B team has been moved to Division 3 per that club’s projected participation numbers for the season.
Division 3 (ten teams) will experience a slight shrinking from twelve teams as compared to the 2017 season. This is a result of six teams moving up to Division 2, which is the natural progression of the league season-to-season. However, welcome to the league Forsyth C, Lovett B, Pace B and new club Chamblee!
The Girls Division (nine teams) has experienced growth as well, with the split of the APS Knights and Wildcats squads in to A and B teams.
Overall, the GHSWPA will operate with 40 teams in 2018, compared to 35 teams in 2017. 2018 competition scheduling is now underway based on the new Divisions.
